We’ve got a nut!

A couple days ago I tried to put Lacey down for a nap. She usually takes a nap about 3 times a week now, but I still give her a chance to nap every day. On this particular day I laid her down and heard her talking, playing, and screaming like she usually does. After about 20 minutes, she started screaming “I stuck in here!” over and over!  I decided to check it out. I thought maybe she crawled under her little toddler bed and got her head stuck (she did that one time a while ago). I walked in and I couldn’t see her. She was quiet at this point, so I began to look around. She had taken all the clothes out of her closet and thrown them on the ground (as usual), but there was still something on the shelf … Lacey!

She was laying there stuck on the shelf!
Well, yesterday we skipped naps because of church, but today I tried to get her down for a nap again. She screamed and screamed, and I went in about a million times to get her off the shelf and put her back in bed. Finally it was quiet, I poked my head in to check on her, and she wasn’t on the floor or in her bed… she had fallen asleep on the shelf! Great! Now I had to decide whether I move her (which would probably wake her up), or take the chance of her falling off the shelf and getting hurt. So I decided to move her and of course she woke up, but quickly fell back to sleep in my arms. As soon as I laid her down she woke up but I decided to let her scream and see if she would go back to sleep. Not too long after, it was quiet again. Again I poked my head in, guess where she had fallen asleep? ON THE SHELF!!! You’ve got to be kidding me! Well, I turned a movie on for Jackson, gave him a couple cookies and milk, and I decided the girl needed sleep since she didn’t sleep Saturday or Sunday. So she slept on the shelf while I sat by her to catch her when she fell…which she did about 20 minutes later, and she wasn’t too happy because it woke her up! I caught her, sat with her until she fell back to sleep, then laid her back in bed, and she woke up! Dang! So we went out and watched the movie with Jackson… so much for nap time!  What a funny girl… she is so full of her own personality and ideas! Her favorite phrase right now is “I DO IT!” (forcefully) and “I DID IT!”

She’s Crafty

A long time ago I used to love arts and crafts. I haven’t really done anything since I made a bumper for Jackson’s crib right before I had him. I usually make up excuses like: I don’t want to spend the money, I’d feel bad spending the time, I don’t have a good place to do it, I can’t think of anything to do, I’m not good at arts or crafts anymore, etc, etc, etc!

Well, I decided to put those things aside and just do something. I’ve really enjoyed it, and although you all probably think none of these are anything great, I’m quite happy with how they turned out. I also feel like I’ve been more productive in my spare time. I used to think, “how do you do crafts when you have kids?” The answer… you don’t work on them when they’re awake… and if you do, its during they younger ones nap time, and you give the older one glue, scissors, paper, and any other material they want to make their own craft, and let them help you where they can. Jackson has really liked our craft time.

Anyway, here was my first little craft, made from cheap fabric from the fabric store and a few accessories. Its not my usual style, but the price was right and its growing on me.IMG_5087

The next one, I got really ambitious and thought I could make 8 in a few days… well, it took about a week and a half  of  a few hours of all my free nights to whip all these out! But Jackson and Lacey LOVE these little skeletons! I think the people I gave them to liked them ok too. It’s a fun decoration for Halloween.

I finally finished this wreath last night… I took a little time to get the bow put together.  I collected the pine cones in Pinetop at the cabin the last time we were there.  I took this picture late last night, so the lighting isn’t the best, but I was excited to get it done and see the final result.

Thanks to Erin, my sister-in-law, for all these ideas!

I have a few projects I’m getting started on soon, and I’ll post about them when/if they come together.

Possessed Broom

I was telling Sarah about this news story I saw where a small business owner had a broom that would stand on end and they were trying to make it seem like some mysterious power was holding it up and people would come in to see the magical broom. I was curious …(like Curious George!) so I grabbed our broom and BEHOLD!

Happy Halloween!

Yuba City Trip

We went to Yuba City last weekend to spend some time with family there. We had a great time. It was one big party from start to finish. What a blast! We swam a couple times, went out to eat a few times, played a lot with grandma’s cool train set, went to the park, celebrated Grandpa Hawley’s birthday, played and played with cousins, jumped on the trampoline, played with the dog named Weezer (and a couple other wiener dogs), went bowling, etc, etc, etc… Here’s a few pictures from our adventures over there!

Lunch at Casa Lupe

While we were there Jackson learned a few tricks from Grandpa. He watched as we were all adjusted and then he got adjusted . After that, there was nothing else he needed to know.  He came up with this all by himself yesterday… He pulled out a bunch of blankets and pillows from the closet and set up a “me-sin” table. I thought he meant a a measuring table, but Micah thinks he meant medicine table.

Anyway, if anyone here needs an adjustment, we haven’t taken his table down yet. Jackson will “fix” (as he says it) you right up. Thanks for the great time Grandma and Grandpa!

5th Wedding Anniversary

Welcome to our new blog home…
A couple weeks ago we celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. We were given the best gift from Mike & Lori. They let us stay in their timeshare for a few nights while they babysat our children. We love Jackson and Lacey but it was nice to just be us. We decided to go to the same place we went on our honeymoon, Sedona Arizona. Sedona is about 2 1/2 hours north and is a very unique town. Lots of places to hike, you can take jeep tours, hot air balloon rides, horseback rides, atv rentals, etc, etc. We thought we would try to go on a couple hikes. The first day, the plan was to hike to Cathedral Rock (pictured below) and watch the sunset. We left a little late and were trying to run up the mountain in a race against the sun. We soon found that we’re not much for hiking especially the running up a hill kind. Our favorite part of the trip was the cowboy cookout. There is a ranch where you go on a horseback ride then have the best steak dinner while this guy plays his guitar. If you plan a trip to sedona we highly recommend this. The horseback ride wasn’t the greatest – we had gnats biting the whole time – but it is great to sit and enjoy the surroundings. You can see the awesome sunset I was able to capture that night.
