How We Cope With the Rising Temp

Here’s Jackson’s best idea:

A few weeks ago we saw the warthogs at the Wildlife World Zoo rolling in the mud…
We told Jackson they did it to keep themselves cool. I’m not sure if that’s where he got the idea, but he was really enjoying it.
Does that first picture remind anybody of someone else we know?
I couldn’t help but think of a certain uncle Jackson has that I can vividly picture doing something similar. I about died when I came out and saw Jackson. He was so relaxed – he didn’t even hear me come out.
We actually went for a nice cool swim about a half hour before these pictures. The pool was about 74* and we thought we’d try it out. Jackson and I jumped in together and his teeth didn’t stop chattering the whole time we were in. I kept trying to convince him to get out and let me wrap him up in a towel, but he wanted to stay in and practice swimming. By the end of this summer he’ll be swimming like a pro!

Jackson’s Happy Birthday

So Jackson’s Happy Birthday was more of a birthday week… it started on Tuesday… mama and papa great made his day by calling to sing Happy Birthday a day early! That was one of the best gifts ever – he’s been begging for us to sing to him since Lacey’s birthday! What a smile! The next morning we had decorated a little bit, and gotten his presents ready for him. He was woken up with a Happy Birthday phone call and when he came out of the room Micah showed him his bike and his eyes lit up! He got on and started riding around right away!

Not only was there a cool bike, there was a cake, exactly like he asked for! I was going to make a really fun cake, but when I asked him if he wanted a train or cars cake, he said ” No — a circle brown cake.” Well, I couldn’t hold Jackson off for very long, so about 10:45 we decided he

needed a little taste. A little bit later, Mamama showed up at our house and brought some great presents for him to open!

That night we sang happy birthday and served him some more cake and ice cream. He had another great Happy Birthday call from Grandma and Grandpa and then had a couple small presents to open and overall it was an exciting day!

On Friday I had planned to go to Freestone Park, where they have a little train and a few other rides. We invited his best friend Max and three of his favorites, Lori, Mari, and Becca to come with us! Oh man – it was a blast! We fed the ducks, rode the carousel, rode the train and played hard!

Today we decided to go to the Wildlife World Zoo! It was another great time – but no pictures, we forgot the memory card wasn’t in our camera! We took another little train ride, fed the giraffes, and saw tigers, crocodiles, etc, etc, etc! It was a neat zoo trip and we were glad to have Micah there with us! What a big week! Don’t you think we should all have a birthday week?

First Family Campout

Last weekend our ward had a camp out at Roosevelt Lake. We debated whether or not it would be a good idea to go with little kids but Friday morning Sarah got a burst of spontaneity and said “We’re going!” She spent the rest of the day packing us up for our first camping adventure with kids or even as a couple (kind of sad, huh). I got home from work as early as possible, we stopped off at Burger King for dinner and made it to the campsite as it was getting dark. Thanks to the Runyans for the tent they gave us a few years ago.

Jackson love roasting marshmallows. He wasn’t a huge fan of SMORES but he sure loved holding marshmallows over the fire to watch them burn. We then watched WALL-E under the stars on a big screen while Jackson collected big rocks and piled them on our blanket and took a couple breaks to check out the fire again and finish off the marshmallows.

The kids did surprisingly well through the night. Lacey slept in a pack’n’play in the van and Jackson stayed in the tent with us. It took him a while to settle down from his sugar high but he eventually fell asleep. The next day we played for a bit, packed up and visited some nearby ancient cliff dwellings and came home.

Let’s go camping again soon!

What we’ve been up to lately

Have you ever seen those quizzes where they show you a close up picture of something and then you have to guess what the object actually is? Well – can you guess what this is?

If you guessed play dough with lots of funny animal parts in it – you were exactly right!
We’ve been having a lot of fun lately at our house. Everything seems nice when the weather is nice! A few days ago Jackson was begging to play play dough, and of course I had none. So I decided to make some. I’ve done this before, I don’t ever buy play dough anymore, but this time I added food coloring which made Jackson especially excited! He immediately put all the colors together and told me he was making a birthday cake. He was looking for candles to put on the cake and the animal pieces are what he came up with. We sang Happy Birthday to him and then he blew out the candles…over and over and over! I think he’s getting excited for all the birthdays coming up in our family.
This is what else we’ve been up to… Lacey is getting into everything lately and this is one of her favorite places! We have a lot of t.p. in this cupboard and I pick it up about 7000 times a day! :o) Jackson thinks its pretty fun too and this is usually what they do if I’m getting my hair done or if they’re just bored.
This is not rain…it’s the sprinkler. Yes we are playing in the sprinkler already. This little boy is a water baby! He lives for water! So on this day it was probably about 65* for the high and he thought he needed the sprinkler on – he kept telling me it wasn’t cold.

This is Lacey’s usual post when Jackson is outside, unless she’s in the swing out there. She gets so mad when he is outside and she is not. So we let her come out and play too.
She decided to look at and smell the flowers

Taste some of that delicious dirt (I think that face explains the taste)

And then she decided to try out that sprinkler that Jackson made look so fun! I don’t think she thought it was as fun as it looked.

She is walking everywhere by the way. She still falls quite a bit but it doesn’t stop her from trying to walk just a little faster!

Micah has been growing a beard for the Mountain Man Rendezvous that is going on this weekend. He was really excited about all the fun stuff they are doing. His group of boys were making some really cool knives in preparation for the big event. Hopefully they’re having a great time and everything went well. I’m sure we’ll post a picture of the beard at some point. Side note: If you really want to see it, Micah was on Fox 10 news on Thursday. While he was out to lunch his building was closed down for a suspicious looking powder in a package. It ended up being nothing, but on his was back to work the parking lot was blocked off. So he stopped and asked the news crew on the corner if they knew what was going on and they filled him in on a few details and then asked if they could interview him.

Oh what fun we have at our house! We are definitely the fun bus over here!
