Halloween 2011

This is what Halloween looked like over here:

Batman, Bat “girl”, and a cute little cowgirl
For the trunk-or-treat on Wednesday night, Micah did a little dressing up with a nice white shirt unbuttoned a little with a gray shirt underneath that had the batman symbol showing and batman mask, but somehow I didn’t get pictures of that – he must have been the photographer. The kids really wanted us to all dress up as a “Bat” family for the trunk-or-treat, but of course I didn’t get my act together for that. Lacey assured me it was ok because the baby (in my tummy) was dressing up as me…so at least we all had a costume or were a costume!

Saturday night we had fun carving pumpkins for the kids. We had several stencils that they could choose from and we came out with Scooby doo, angry birds, and a cabbage patch doll. Pretty fun!

Halloween night was a big success – everyone came home happy and I’m glad its over. Don’t get me wrong… I love Halloween, but the celebration felt like it started early this year because it landed on a Monday and I felt like everyone celebrated the entire week before with Halloween cookies, candies, and treats everywhere we went!

Jack-o-Lantern in a Jar

Jackson wanted to give something to his Kindergarten teacher so I decided to make some sugar cookies I had seen.  The idea was to make cookies in the shape of jack-o-lantern parts.  Here is the recipe I used.

The frosting is very thin and is applied with squeeze bottles.

Then I got some orange plates and added stems.

You can then mix and match the cookies to make silly faces.

Dinner with the Dennings

Last Monday night Micah arranged to have a neat family over for dinner. This is the Denning family.

Micah found this family with five children through one of the blogs he follows and was definitely intrigued by their story. You can visit their website here. For this particular trip, they started in Alaska and are on their way to Argentina, driving a vegetable oil powered truck and living out of a pretty cool rooftop tent.

Micah found them just in time as they were passing through parts of AZ that we were able to invite them over for dinner. All the kids had a great time playing and swimming together and dinner went well. We were able to talk for a while with them about their adventures and learn more about their neat family. We were inspired to be a little more creative with our family time and more motivated to take chances or opportunities that may not always seem like the logical choice to others around us. It opened my mind to acting on dreams…

Thanks for stopping by for the evening and good luck with your travels!
