Long Hot Summers require creativity and another quick visit to the cabin!
I’m way behind! I can’t believe it’s October already, my brain is stuck in September! Well, I’ll have to play a little catch up. I’m not going to lie, the summer here this year has been long! I kept thinking it was going to cool off, even to 100 – 105*. It would barely get to that at night! Our shallow pool starts getting quite warm late in the summer, so even it lost its draw, so my kids got creative this year. Almost every day in August Jackson would fill up several cups and bowls and anything I would let him with water and put them in the freezer. We would check them several times a day and when they were finally frozen they would all go outside and play with the ice on the sidewalk. They would draw pictures and see how long it took for the ice to melt – it was great fun that all three could enjoy and I could watch from the window! If they weren’t playing with ice and we weren’t in the pool, they would turn on the hose around the slides and either make water slides or make canal paths in the rocks for the water. It was nice to be able to play out there by the slides again – without water the rocks and slides are too hot to step on! One of my BYU rec. management teachers said, “Just add water to any game and its like ‘magic’… it makes even a boring game fun!” He must of been from AZ ;o) It really does seem to be true though.
We decided to take one last summer trip to the cabin for Labor Day weekend. Aaahhh, such nice cool air there and it was especially nice to have Micah with us! Almost everyone was there this go around, even the Colorado Coonsies, and it was a blast to have so many cousins to play with! We hadn’t had a fire there all summer because of the restrictions, so Jackson was SO happy there had been enough rain that we felt it was safe to have a fire and smores. He prayed for it quite a bit… it was a happy answer to prayers. We get lots of play and craft time up at the cabin… can life get better???
