Prop 102

Today I went down to the yesformarriage.com phone banks and volunteered to call people about Prop 102. I was kinda nervous to make the calls before I went (we all know how much we love telemarketers) but I decided that it is definitely something I believe in and it will make a difference in our lives and our children’s lives. It ended up being very easy and I actually really enjoyed it. Very few people minded me calling and most were happy to be able to tell me that they were definitely for or in a few cases definitely against this proposition.
So… in case you hadn’t heard, the marriage amendment (Prop. 102) will be on our AZ ballot in November. It will read:

“Only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state.”

Vote “Yes,” spread the word, and let’s get this passed this time around. Check out yesformarriage.com.

  1. Way to go! Emily had a harder time with phone calls than we did with door to door. Folks are tired of phone solicitors and didn’t want to listen.
This issue is so important. The Church could face challenges soon, if we don’t pass an ammendment in CA. I can say activists suing for bishops to perform marriages, and even suing for temple marriages. Some wording will definately have to change in the recommend process.
The is currently a bill on Schwarzeneggers day for approval of a Harvey Milk Day. It has already passed both houses. He was an openly gay San Francisco supervisor who was assasinated in 1978, along with Mayor Moscone. This would mean schools will be required to acknowledge him on Harvey Milk Day. I don’t have a problem with that if he had made some major contribution to the state, but that is not what is at issue.

  2. After listening to Chuck Baldwin speak and hearing via blog about the work in CA, this issue has been on my mind a lot. I’m so glad you all are able to do this work. I read an article about the “culture war” between social conservatives and social liberals. It’s good to know that good people are stepping up and speaking out for the family.

  3. Elder Wickman called this issue the Gettysburg of our day…we are working hard in San Diego on the same issues…keep it up!
